Teaching Philosophy

As an educator, my goal is to cultivate student potential, promote inclusivity and increase visual literacy. Whether diverse needs, backgrounds or interests, I find that using differences to strengthen the collective whole is the best approach. I feel that teachers must continue to learn from their students, evolving with the technological landscape and maintaining social awareness. The classroom should be a nurturing environment in which the educator serves as a mentor.

In my classes, we use frequent critiques and group discussions so that each student contributes to the learning process. In addition to fostering dialogue, I use my background in the fine art and commercial art worlds to provide perspective and help students visualize their future as creative professionals. I encourage students to dig deeper into the visual medium, considering both the aesthetics and the psychology of a successful artwork.
