In an attempt to connect with our surroundings, humans tend to gather natural elements and reconstruct them in a way that mimics their origin. Scaped is a photographic series that examines the blurred line between the natural and the contrived by capturing modified environments and landscaping materials. Shot on medium format color film, these images are intentionally framed to emphasize the role that landscaping plays in providing order and organization. The resulting images consist of flattened dioramas where ordinary materials are transformed into monumental objects. What, then, distinguishes a landscape boulder from a mountain, besides perspective?
